New Direction

So, i have finally had the burden of speech recognition lifted from my shoulders. New assignment is to get volume response out of the audience, to be imported to effect visuals.

I will attempt some arduino experiments using 386 amplifier circuit. Pics and updates to come!

Processing

Ive been doing a lot of work in processing, building programming literacy for the internship project.

Moved on from recursion to Class and object structure. Its coming along well. Processing has been great as a way to get my foot in the door of programming. Using these skills, ive been working more on finding ways to implement my components.

Jitter

So I had a good time the other day mucking around in Jitter. Learned about the jit.matrix object, and jit.pwindow object, using uzi function, etc to do 3 dimensional algebraic graphing (since takes inputs x,y and outputs a value, z, which can be used as a gray scale for individual points on the graph).
I had a good time dredging up my old calculus, and making some sweet sinusoidal functions for creating circular gradient patterning.

Fun stuff. The work continues!

Scope Of Work Report

In collaboration with Jonathan, Simon, and Anya

As it stands at the moment, the concept of the piece is rather open ended, but the form will be a performance that makes use of programming elements to create an interaction between actors and projected typographic content. There is a possibility that the piece will also incorporate audience interaction in the form of text input, or input from online soures, etc.

My job during the internship will be to research, test and program means for creating interactive elements for a stage production. I am leaving in the spring, so in the context of the class, I will be presenting some working prototype for what will be presented in April. Jonathan and I have discussed the possibility of continuing to assist on the project after I return from exchange.

So far, I have been studying MAX/MSP, and have set up basic communication tools using google apps (googledoc, googlecalendar, etc.). I have also contributed during planning stages, and will continue to do so, to attempt to flesh out what form and content the final piece will take on. I will be expected to develop some tools/ concepts for incorporating procedural interaction into the performance, including MAX/MSP.

My hope coming out of this project will be to have a working knowledge of MAX/MSP, which I will incorporate into my exchange work next semester, and my grad work next year. Additionally, I am excited to begin a project with possibilities of future development.

Prospective Projects

1. Top of the list would be the animated typographic play, as im interested in after effects, and in max/msp, and it would be a great chance to help use those as research tools. Problem being that I'm going on exchange next semester, so I'm not going to be able to witness the performance proper.

2. Next would be CODE, problem being also that Im out of town for the Olympics, so my contributions would all have to be pre-work. Im really interested in the concept of surveilance, and would like to work with creative ways of processing surveilance data

3. In the digital intersections studio I would love to get more work with the interactive wearables, to expand my knowledge with arduino, physical programming, garment design, etc. Similarly working with the 3d printer, possibly lobbying for a rep-rap. Also, learning about mocap would be great.

4. IF sounds good as well, I could definately do some videography work for it. I would be interested in finding a good way to document it, that wasnt just a straight up videos-of-people-walking-around doc, but used some interesting methodologies for capturing the action that related more to the actual show itself.

5. The creative interactions presentation was the one that caught my eye most, as I'm interested in electronics and music, and that seems to be their biggest focus. A little turned off because they are looking for idd and indd type work that Im not sure appeals to me.
